ReflexologyModern reflexology is based on a very ancient form of therapy. There is evidence that the ancient Egyptians used a type of foot massage as a health treatment as long ago as 2500 BC Reflexology is a natural healing science based on applying pressure to specific reflex points on the feet. These points correspond to areas in the body, and by using the thumb and fingers to massage the relevant reflex areas, the whole body can be influenced and imbalances may be alleviated. Reflexology works on the principle that there is a life force or energy within us, that flows through 10 energy channels within the body, and that if these channels / zones become congested with toxins, then the body becomes out of balance and ill health may result. Therefore a reflexology treatment works on all 10 of the energy channels / zones. Benefits of reflexology include: the relaxing of body and mind, stress relief, the elimination of toxins from the body, improved circulation, improved energy levels and balancing the body. In addition a course of Reflexology has been known to ease the symptoms of many health conditions, including: back and joint pain, migraine, fertility issues, sleep problems, hormonal imbalances, sports injuries, digestive disorders and stress related ailments. Reflexology is suitable for pregnant women after the first trimester and can help ease a variety of pregnancy related symptoms. A specific priming labour treatment can also be carried out on or after your due date, which may help bring about the birth. For the treatment itself, you will remove your shoes and socks, and sit in a reflexology chair that comfortably raises your legs and feet, whilst fully supporting your back. |
